Hazards of Halloween Driving

We recently ran an article on our top tips for Halloween Driving – However with it being the main event tonight, we here at Britannia Driving School thought it best to reiterate the dangers of being behind the wheel at this time of year.

One main thing to watch out for is other people, particularly those in fancy dress – As they will likely be clad head-to-toe in black and dark clothing for that “scary” effect, unfortunately this makes for poor visibility in the night time, especially when a large amount of people are out trick-or-treating, mostly with younger children.

Driving Safe This Halloween

The nature of driving changes often throughout the year – From the refreshing pleasure of driving in springtime, to the glorious enjoyment of driving in the summer, there are certainly a few differences when it comes to being behind the wheel in different seasons.

One time you really need to be on your guard is Halloween. With the nights getting darker earlier, combined with the various dangers of bonfires, fireworks, and even the recent craze of killer clowns, there are more than enough hazards out there to keep you on your toes.

The Hardest Part Of The Driving Test

Here at Britannia Driving School, we understand that everyone has a different experience of learning to drive. That’s what makes it special – It is a unique process that almost every person goes through, yet we may all face entirely different challenges during the course of learning to drive.

Some people may find the biggest hurdle is mastering the manoeuvres they are faced with on the driving test. However others may see these as a piece of cake, but struggle with the harder aspects of steering. Whatever it is you find difficult, we’re sure we can get you through.

Passing The Test At 25

Have you ever wondered when the best time to take the driving test would be? Well, as it turns out, there is an optimum point in your life to tackle this obstacle – And it might just surprise you.

Apparently passing the driving test at the age of 25 makes you a safer driver – Of course, this makes sense when you consider that a majority of driving accidents involve teenage and newly qualified drivers.

The Morning Commute

There are a number of times that you really don’t want to be behind the wheel. These might be being stuck in a traffic jam for hours on end (Hardly anyone’s idea of fun!) or for some it might be travelling at higher speeds on the motorway – Understandably stressful for a novice.

But there is none quite as frustrating as the morning commute. This combines everyone’s favourite activity of stop-start traffic along with the added enjoyment of a full day at work to look forward to at the end of your journey! What’s not to love…

Socialising Whilst Driving

There are many advantages of being a driver – It might be that it makes your morning commute easier and more convenient than using public transport, or it might be that it allows you the freedom to get around more without the need to cadge a lift off of another driver.

However one thing driving isn’t known for is that it can help improve your social life. Not only does it give you more freedom to get around and visit friends and family, but being in the car itself is a good place to chat to your passengers – Just make sure not to use social media whilst behind the wheel!

Your First Car

So you’ve finally done it – You’ve spent many, many hours of your life revising and practising, you’ve aced the theory test, and finally taken and passed the practical driving test! Congratulations – But what comes next?

Of course, you’re going to need a car. But how do you decide which one to get? What is the right car for you? We would recommend avoiding the temptation to go for the newest, most expensive car – Remember, the first year or so of driving is the time you are most likely to have the odd few bangs and scrapes.

Trust Your Driver

We all know that there is more to learning to drive than meets the eye. Whether that means learning to become more aware of your surroundings, or gradually mastering how differently you need to drive on motorways, there is certainly much more to driving that just moving the car.

One important aspect of becoming a good driver is accepting the responsibility that goes along with being behind the wheel. this goes for your passengers too – If they trust your ability to drive as much as they should, this will likely help encourage you as a driver.

Simple Driving Test Mistakes

You have probably heard lots of horror stories about the many things that can go hideously wrong on a driving test – Whether that’s the examiner being forced to stop the test early for fear of their own safety or even worse, rolling the car onto its roof in the first few minutes!

The truth however is far less dramatic – Those who do unfortunately fail their driving test almost always do so due to a simple mistake. The most common of these are lack of observation, forgetting to indicate before a manoeuvre, or even leaving an indicator on for too long after a turn.

Does The Car Make The Driver?

You will probably hear lots of different opinions on what exactly it is makes a good driver – For some, it may be the confidence some exude when behind the wheel, whereas others may contest that an ability to react quickly and efficiently is much more useful to a good driver.

One topic that causes much debate is how much the car makes you a better driver. Of course, certain tools such as parking sensors or sat-navs may improve your driving ability, and some cars will be easier and more comfortable to drive than others, but we really feel that a good driver is always a good driver – No matter what the car.
