However it may still seem like a pipe dream to some – Maybe the financial burden of learning to drive is putting you off, or perhaps you just don’t have the time between school, college, university, jobs and a social life to squeeze in a driving lesson every week?

We would advise that it is really worth making time for your driving lessons. Just one hour a week can really make the difference between you being a novice driving pupil and an experienced, fully-fledged driver – And remember, we all had to start somewhere!

Do You Enjoy Driving?

Learning to drive can be a great experience. After the initial build-up and stress of revising for your Theory test and the culmination of tackling your practical, it really is such a fantastic relief to be able to pass your test, earning your pink license and being able to take to the roads on your own.

One thing we often ask those who have successfully passed their tests is “Do you enjoy driving?”. Spotting The Hazards

The process of learning to drive encompasses a wide range of skills. From basic motor skills to more advanced observational and cognitive skills, when it comes to the aspect of hazard perception and the decision-making process involved.

Some hazards are obvious – Fallen branches for example – Whilst others may be more subtle, such as a parked car, which may or may not have a driver or passenger ready to exit the vehicle suddenly and without warning. Learning to identify and react to hazards appropriately is part of being a good driver, so get practising!

Working Around The Driving Lessons

However a busy schedule can actually be beneficial when it comes to learning to drive. It might mean that you have your lessons at different times each week – Thus helping you to learn to drive at different times, or you may get picked up from home one day and college or work the next, so you can get better used to different routes.

What To Know Before Starting Your Driving Lessons

For many sixteen and seventeen year-olds, there is nothing quite as exciting as finally getting behind a wheel on your first driving lessons and taking to the roads, with a plan to fly through your lessons, ace the driving test and be out in your own car before the year is through.

But what do you need to know before getting to that stage? Well firstly, learning to drive takes a lot of commitment. Whether that’s revising for the Theory Test, or putting the hours in making sure you are perfect at each manoeuvre, you will need to stay focused and dedicated in order to get to the level you want to be.

Is Learning To Drive Easy?

For many people, learning to drive is the easiest thing in the world. Being behind a wheel comes naturally to them, and the Highway Code is like a second language. But what about those who struggle to master the skills require to pass the driving test? What exactly makes these types of people different, and how can we make it easier to learn to drive?

Unfortunately there’s no easy answer to this. Just as some people excel at Maths whilst others might be better at Physical Education, everyone is different – But that doesn’t mean if you’re struggling with your driving lessons it has to stay that way. Everyone learns in different ways, so whilst your family and friends might ace their driving lessons over a year-long period, you may find you do much better with an Intensive Course instead!

Driving Without Direction

For a lot of people, passing the driving test and becoming a fully qualified driver opens up a whole world of possibilities. For example, once you have your driving license, you can then consider using your newfound skill to improve your career prospects – Either by learning to drive for a living, or even just improving your morning commute to the office.

But just as driving can have implications on your professional life, sometimes it is nice to be able to just drive – With no pre-planned route or even a destination in mind. For many people the joy of driving is one of the main attractions – Opening you up to freedom and unlimited possibilities.
