Amazing Scenic UK Roads Part 2

The October half term is arriving shortly, so why not go for a great road trip and visit one of Britains best driving roads.

Snake Pass, located in the Peak District, is said to be an amazing location to drive and visit. Some drivers will also drive through what is called “Cat and Fiddle” when visiting the Snake Pass – which is said to be a must for all driving enthusiasts.

And in 2009, Snake Pass was listed by Auto Trader as one the best driving roads. Located between Manchester and Sheffield there will be plenty of great things to visit and see.

Road Safety Speeding

Speeding is a serious offence and when drivers are caught as a minimum are given £100 fine and 3 penalty points on their licence.

As new drivers, you should avoid at any cost getting points on your licence as if it is within the first 2 years of you driving and you gain 6 points or more, your licence will be taken away from you.

There are 2 ways that you can be caught for speeding. The first is with a camera and usually, within 2 weeks of the offence you will be sent a notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) You must return the notice within 28 days, telling the police who was driving the car. Another way you can be caught is by police officers they can either give you a verbal warning, give or send you an FP or order you to go to court – you’ll be sent a letter telling you what to do.

Speeding has many consequences not only gives you fines and points it also risks the lives of other road users, so please keep an eye on your speed.

Road Safety and Devices

Do you know the road safety rules? And do you follow them? One of the biggest road safety rules that many people break is using their mobile phone.

Once the car’s engine has been started you can no longer touch your phone, regardless of whether you’re at a traffic light or stuck in standstill traffic.

New rules and regulations have made punishment more severe for such offences, when using a satnav or using your phone as a satnav once you have begun driving you can no longer touch the screen or any device.

Rewriting the Road Safety Rules

In the USA they are already making plans to rewrite their road safety rules in better preparation for driverless cars.

There are talks of scarping the safety rules mandating steering wheels, pedals and mirrors.

It is said that they could possibly be removed from the safety manuals and cars to help cut the cost of producing fully self-driving vehicles, although the technology will have to be advanced before all elements that make a car are removed.

Currently, the US vehicle safety standards are written (like such standards everywhere else in the world) with the assumption that a human driver will be in charge of the vehicle. While a fully self-driving car would not need anyone in charge, such a scenario might be further off than speculation around autonomous vehicles has suggested.

Drivers Don’t Have to be Human!

Because of the evolution of self-driving cars becoming closer each day, the Department of Transport has started to change the definition of a ‘driver’.

They state ” adapt the definitions of ‘driver’ and ‘operator’ to recognize that such terms do not refer exclusively to a human, but may, in fact, include an automated system.”

Being underage could result in invalidating their car insurance and lead to a driving ban, unlimited fine and eight points on their provisional licence.

You also need to have held a full UK driving licence for at least three years – or from countries within the EU or EEA.
