Christopher Faulkner, 36 saw red when his wife got a new lover and set out for revenge.
The jealous husband disabled the brakes on his own Vauxhall Corsa and drove half a mile before smashing it into a wall.
He contacted police and names his love rival as the culprit.
Police released the man after questioning and soon turned their attention to Faulkner.
Faulkner appeared at Manchester Crown Court, after admitting dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice. He received a 12 month community order and banned from driving for a year.
Judge Robert Atherton said: “Your reaction was very dangerous. You could have killed someone.”
